Ablatio Mammae is the complete amputation of the breast with direct closure of the remaining wound. This results in a flat breast with a transverse scar.

Today, this disfiguring operation is only necessary in very exceptional cases, such as in the case of a very advanced tumour that has already grown into the skin.
